Two big triggers dominate today's Trader's Breakfast rather than any fresh stock picks. HDFC Bank's existing CEO, Shashidhar Jagdishan, has declined to continue his term, with 26 October likely to be his last date, while today also brings a major MSCI rebalancing between 2.30 PM and 3.30 PM, the first since the cash settlement system came into effect. On the broader stock market front today, Nifty is trading sideways but showing early signs of weakness, while Bank Nifty continues to consolidate within the 57000 to 58000 range. M&M, NBCC, Cupid, and Oil India lead today's stocks in the news list.

Key Triggers to Watch Today
HDFC Bank CEO Resignation
The biggest domestic-level update today comes from HDFC Bank, where existing CEO Shashidhar Jagdishan has declined to continue his term, effectively resigning, with 26 October likely to be his last date. His tenure over the last three to four years has seen several question marks raised, particularly since the HDFC Bank and HDFC merger, along with recurring issues around news leaks. As a result, the stock has significantly underperformed, and HDFC Bank has arguably never traded at such cheap valuations historically.
Whether the market takes this resignation negatively or positively remains to be seen, but there is a reasonable chance it gets read positively, given how attractive current valuations are. The market may start to assume that the difficult phase for the stock is ending and that things could improve from here, though this will need to be watched closely. Adding to the news flow, early reports this morning suggest Dinesh Khara, the former MD and CEO of SBI, could potentially take over as CEO of HDFC Bank.
FIIs are not currently in an aggressive buying mode overall, but HDFC Bank remains a preferred bet whenever FII buying does pick up, while DIIs tend to wait patiently for opportunities in a stock like this. Institutional buying interest in HDFC Bank could well emerge as this story develops.
MSCI Rebalancing
The second major trigger today plays out between 2.30 PM and 3.30 PM, when a significant MSCI rebalancing takes place. MSCI rebalancing events typically bring large moves, and today carries extra significance as it will be the first such rebalancing since the cash settlement system came into effect. The final half hour of trade is usually where the real impact shows up, with MSCI-related activity generally concentrated in the window before the cash market closes at 3.30 PM, and the resulting closing rate at that time carrying particular weight for the day.
