Deepa Jewellers Gains 25% on Listing While Rays of Belief Opens Flat Despite Strong Subscription

The IPO market saw two different listing performances as Deepa Jewellers made a strong debut, while Rays of Belief shares opened flat on the stock exchanges. Deepa Jewellers shares listed at a 25% premium to the IPO price, giving investors a positive start on the listing day. On the other hand, Rays of Belief shares listed at the IPO price even though the issue received a very strong response from investors. The IPO was subscribed 108 times, but the high subscription did not result in a premium listing.
The performance of Deepa Jewellers showed that strong investor interest can lead to a good listing when market sentiment remains positive. A 25% listing gain also gave investors who received the allotment an immediate return on their investment. Rays of Belief had a different outcome. Despite receiving bids many times higher than the shares offered, the stock started trading at the issue price. This shows that a high subscription number does not always mean that a stock will give strong listing gains.
For IPO investors, both listings offer an important lesson. Subscription numbers and grey market trends can give an idea about investor interest, but they cannot guarantee how a stock will perform after listing. Investors should also look at the company's business, valuation and risks before taking an investment decision.
